TrueConf Company is glad to inform that the new version of TrueConf Server 3.3 supports scalable video coding (SVC), which allows transferring video of different quality within one outgoing stream. As a result, devices that don’t require HD quality (tablets, mobile phones), can decode video stream only partially, while terminal devices and computers with higher resolution can use the full video stream. Video quality used to be adjusted to the capabilities of the weakest video conferencing end-point device so that everybody received the same low quality image.

Introduction of SVC technology helped us solve this problem, and now all users receive the best image quality not depending on the screen resolution and performance of the weakest end-point device that participates in the video conference.

In addition to the main part of the press conference, speakers’ reports, TrueConf demonstrated to journalists its recent video conferencing developments: VCS solution that supports gesture management, application for mobile devices on iOS and Android platforms, and technology that allows to integrate video conferencing server with corporate telephone exchange system.

The TrueConf solution can be used on communicators, smartphones, tablets, and PCs. The application
is fully compatible with all TrueConf products and allows to conducts personal video calls with user
of the TrueConf Server, cloud service, and hardware video conferencing solutions.

TrueConf specialists designed the new single concept
for UNIX-like operating systems, such as iOS, Android, Linux, and Mac OS, provided support for
specific input and output of audio and video signals for Android platform, tested the application
on mobile devices of different brands, developed interface of the solution.

TrueConf mobile application for video calls works both Wi-Fi and 3G networks. It is compatible with
mobile devices running Android 2.2 and higher. The solution supports video calls with 320х240 resolution
on channels with bandwidth 48 kbit/s. Moreover, the application allows to exchange text messages.

″Modern mobile processors allow to code and decode video streams in the quality sufficient for
video conferencing,″ says Stas Soldatov, TrueConf Technical Director. ″We use proprietary
software-based coding and decoding algorithms, because we are not satisfied with the quality of
hardware-based processing. It should be pointed out that there is a tendency of manufacturing mobile
devices with more powerful processors. In the nearest future we expect release of the user terminal with
in-built codec WebM (VP8), which is used in TrueConf solutions. This processor will allow to improve
conferencing quality and reduce power consumption of mobile devices″.

TrueConf video application will be available for free download from the official catalog Android Market.
Corporate user of the server TrueConf Server and cloud service TrueConf Online will be able to use the
application for free.

For quicker and more comfortable access to the TrueConf Online application on the mobile device it is
possible to authorize through the built-in to the Android OS Google or through the social networks
accounts Facebook and VKontakte. In other words users do not need to keep in mind their login and password
to the TrueConf Online service, as it is enough to authorize through one of the social networks they use.

″Android application is the first solution of TrueConf company for mobile devices. In the nearest
future we plan to develop applications for Mac OS and iOS.″ says Dmitry Odintsov, TrueConf Chief
Development and Sales Officer. ″The first time we presented the mobile application was the spring
seminar on VCS on April 2011. Today the market is ready for mass introduction of the solution: smartphones
and tablets are widespread and wireless channels bandwidth is constantly increasing. By the end of 2012
we plan to develop the application that supports group video conferencing.″

TrueConf organizes the sixth seminar on development and introduction of the latest video conferencing solutions in CIS countries. The seminar assumes an international status and Richard Norris, expert on VCS and Senior Analyst of the American research firm Wainhouse Research, will take part in the workshop.

TrueConf, a developer and manufacturer of video conferencing systems, released the new version of its software-based video conferencing server TrueConf Server 4.4.0 . The new version supports scalable video coding (SVC) technology, operating from the VP8 video codec (WebM). TrueConf implemented VP8 in 2010, and was the first company in the world to introduce SVC support for it.

The introduction of SVC technology for TrueConf’s video conferencing solutions has helped to provide stable high-quality streaming during multipoint video conferencing sessions for participants using different video terminals (PCs, hardware-based video conferencing systems, tablets, and smartphones) with different bandwidths, processors and speeds.

In addition, SVC technology opens up new possibilities for developers to use the VP8 video codec to improve the quality of data streaming operations.

SVC is a supplement to the data transfer rate adjustment mechanism, which is already implemented in TrueConf Server. SVC serves to change frame frequency and resolution during streaming without transcoding on the server, unlike the Multipoint Control Unit (MCU) used prior to SVC. This feature of SVC technology makes it possible to conduct many group video conferences on a standard server. The transcoding of video steams inherent in MCU required considerable computing power and expensive specialized servers, a cost which was passed to consumers.

The introduction of SVC fundamentally changes the power requirements of video streaming and allows clients to participate in video conferences from mobile devices. Prior to the use of SVC technology, users were limited by reduced computer processing power, and could only receive videos with lower resolutions on most systems.

TrueConf developers upgraded both the channel tracking module and intellectual module, which regulates data transfer rates between conference devices, and introduced an updated version of the VP8 video codec.
